( In 1967-1968 and again\u00a01976-1977 in Philadelphia, 1978-1980 in California, 1981-1984 in Dallas,\u00a0Texas\u00a0and 1988-1989 in Philadelphia).<\/p>\n<p>When he presented to me for an Orofacial Myofunctional Evaluation in 1989 at age 34 years old, he was wearing upper and lower retainers during the day and you will not believe what he was instructed to wear at night to prevent his orthodontic &#8211; surgical treatment from relapsing &#8211; this horrific &#8220;tongue thrust&#8221; appliance!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-515 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.honorfranklin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Keith-3-300x254.jpg\" alt=\"Keith 3\" width=\"300\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.honorfranklin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Keith-3-300x254.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.honorfranklin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Keith-3-768x650.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.honorfranklin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Keith-3-1024x866.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He reported he\u00a0was always a &#8220;mouthbreather&#8221; prior to his maxillofacial surgery in 1984 at which time the maxillofacial surgeon performed a nasal\u00a0turbinectomy during jaw surgery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He reported having &#8220;hayfever&#8221; allergies and presented to me with an inconsistent open mouth posture, weak lip strength and chewed food with his lips open. Nor can OMT correct dental malocclusions without orthodontics and\/or jaw surgery.
